A more traditional way of framing a painting

So, before I was speaking about the 2 different kinds of ways of framing something like this. This is where the frame actually goes on top of the painting. This is the actual frame right from the front and from the side so you have this. This is called the rabbet. That’s the space in which, whatever artwork, goes fits and this is the amount that it’ll cover – this one quarter of an inch and that’s what we put onto the frame.

This painting really could use a cleaning. I think there must have been heavy smokers around when it was up on the wall because this is actually residue from cigarette smoke. The client was not interested in spending, the many hundreds of dollars, to clean it and decided to keep it this way. So, this is a more traditional way of presenting a painting framed.
